Accident repair shops need good levels of lighting
We recently completed a full lighting refit for our accident repair client in Kettering.

Good lighting is essential when the team is working on detailed bodywork repairs. However, poor light levels meant everyone was struggling day to day. At the same time, they were battling rising energy prices.

The solution

TWith design assistance from Midshires Electrical & Lighting Ltd, we upgraded the lighting to LEDs in all areas of the body shop and store rooms.

Passive infrared (PIR) detection included in smaller rooms also improved energy efficiency.

Calculating lighting performance

As well as much better lighting levels, the overall performance results for this project were impressive.

CO2 savings – replacing 100Watt incandescent lamps with LEDs saves around £15 worth of electricity per lamp per year. You’ll also reduce CO² emissions by 5kg. For an average home that amounts to a cut of around 65kg in emissions. For this project it was a massive saving of 4.28tonnes of CO² emissions.

Return on investment (ROI) – all businesses want to reduce their energy costs. Part of our service is to calculate how quickly energy savings cover the cost of equipment and installation. Our ROI calculations for this project showed reduced energy bills would cover the project’s costs in under 2.5 years.

Compliant emergency lighting – we also installed a new emergency lighting system to meet current requirements (BS5266-1)
